Since 2015, Cullen Foundation has studied Buffalo’s PreK to grade 12 human capital landscape, developing supports and funding programs to address weaknesses and cultivate local teacher and leader talent-building opportunities. Priority investments aim to:

  • Support the growth of pipelines and/or certification models to grow the supply of qualified teachers
  • Support the development of high-quality ELA/ math professional development models to improve teacher proficiency/effectiveness
  • Support the development of existing leaders’ management and instructional leadership skills

Cullen invests in education focused human capital work through its strategic investing efforts and not through our open responsive grant process. Recent human capital grants include:

  • Buffalo Urban Teaching Fellows (BUTF)
  • City Year Buffalo
  • The Service Collaborative of WNY Inc.
  • Grow Your Own Teacher program, a collaboration of Canisius University, Tapestry Charter School, and BuffSci
